Bought the Gingery book on 'How to build a Magneto Magnetizer'. The author spouts how cheap the magnetizer can be made.

Re-magnetizing the magnets of a magneto that has become weakened through long use is a simple process. It is important that unlike poles of the magneto magnets and of the electro magnets be brought together; i.e. The North pole of the magneto magnet to the South pole of the electromagnet and vice versa.

Of course, the book was written in 1994. Am trying to find supplies, without having a fortune into it. The main componets I need are.

Two six pound rolls of 18 gauge enameled magnet copper wire, a full wave bridge recifier, 25 amp, 200 volts. And, a capacitor,100 mfd, 200v. Believe I have found a rectifier on Ebay that will work. Received a quote on the wire from a company in Calif., at $10.95 a pound!

At that price I'd have $150 bucks in the wire alone. Can't seem to find a capacitor in the range stated online. Looked at RadioShack, etc.

Any ideas on where I can get the wire and capacitor, without breaking the bank? Greg: You've got a jewell if it works. It is a motor/generator set that converts alternating current into direct current and then zaps the horseshoe electromagnet. You need to look on the nameplate of the motor/generator to see what the input voltage is. My guess is that it is either 120 Volts or 220 Volts, single phase. I've never used one of these puppies but my guess is that you get it going (with the knife switch open).

Put your magnet (polarized properly) on the horseshoe electromagnet and, once the voltage has built-up, throw the knife switch for a second then open it back up. Chevron digital timer socket manual download free software. The motor generator should grunt when you do this and the ammeter should read some current. I think the knob in the middle of the panel is to vary the voltage the DC generator puts out. You better not take my word for it before using the magnetizer - best is to get the real scoop from someone who's used one before. Take care - Elden. Charging horseshoe magnets?

Tie on a piece of fishing line and hold about 2 feet above charger with power on - magnet will align itself in the proper orientation. EXTREMELY IMPORTANT!!!

Before removing magnets from frame - MARK THE LOCATION AND POLARITY!!! After charging the magnets - BEFORE REMOVING FROM CHARGER - PLACE A STEEL KEEPER across magnet poles!!! A magnet will loose 80% of its charge within seconds without a keeper to maintain the magnetic feild. DO NOT remove the square magnets on the American-Bosch AB 33 and 34 mags. The magnetic feilds will swap ends if they are removed, rendering them useless If at all possible, charge the magnets on the case. If you have further questions, please ask!
